Amethyst sat on her cot in the back of the caravan. Basically was like a mix of a huge tent and a tour bus so they had a little room in the back where the band members slept. At the moment she was working on a song. Amy didn't often write things and share them but she was feeling particularly inspired at the moment and was writing. She wore some dark washed skinnies and a grey band t-shirt. Sighted South, to be exact, just to be funny.
She was writing a song based on her interesting experience with Will. She'd never met someone quite like him and he intrigued her. The fact that he was absolutely gorgeous was beside the point. His shyness seemed to make him all the cuter and just thinking about him made Amy smile. It never occurred to her that he was only seventeen or so. Knowing that would probably be pretty awkward. But she didn't know yet, so she had an excuse.
"Blah." She muttered quietly to herself, looking around the empty caravan. She was bored and wished she had some company. [/blockquote]

For once, Milo hadn't been out drinking. He gave his liver a vacation from the abuse. He had taken to wandering. He would walk for hours, getting lost. Occasionally, he ran into people who recognized him - he had even given a few autographs.
He returned to the festival grounds, keeping his hoodie pulled up over his head, the strings pulled so that no one could see his face - as if his short, thin, girl-jeaned frame was anything but mistakeable. He kept his hands shoved in his pockets. Milo returned to the Scheduled Nurse caravan, swinging the door open. He hoped he would be alone so he could wallow in his misery; maybe watch a movie. He hadn't seen Transformers since it was in theaters. Maybe he'd watch that. Or something older, like Summer of Sam or Garden State. Something that he could watch without thinking.
When he meandered into the caravan, he noticed a light on. He went towards the back and peered in. Amy. God, why was he still thinking about her like she was still his girlfriend? Maybe now that it had been a solid month without Katherine in his life, he was looking to reconnect with someone. Anyone. Well, not anyone. Last time he yearned to reconnect with someone, it hadn't ended well.
She was lying on her cot, face down, with a notebook close by. He sneaked up on her and streched out on her cot beside her, on his back, crossing his arms behind his head.
"Drinking alone sucks out loud," he announced.

Amy looked up as Milo lay down beside her and spoke. She smiled slightly and shrugged "Yeah I can imagine that. We should make a chat speak for that, like SOL or something like that" She joked. It was kind of obvious something was wrong with Milo. She wished he would talk to her but she couldnt make him or anything. But still... She wished he would. She closed her notebook and set it on the floor, turning to lay on her side so she could see Milo in a more comfortable position. "Whats up?" she asked lightly, unable to help but feel a distant pang of awkwardness at their situation. Amy had kind of always regretted breaking up with Milo. She'd been relieved they could still be friends but... she missed the good old day. Why did she have to be such an idiot. Thoughts like this often pestered her when she was around Milo.
Amethyst shifted to prop her arm under her head, hoping to find a more comfortable position but it wasn't working too well. So she just let her arm fall and used it as a pillow instead. "Talk to me Miiiiiloooo" she pleaded, smiling sadly "Whats wrong?" She hated to see him upset and he had seemed pretty upset for a while now.

Milo gave a shrug and a sigh, pushing his hood back and turning his head slightly so that he could look Amy in the eye. She had gorgeous eyes. God, did he miss her when she dumped him. He slipped into some sort of post-break-up hell. He hid it well, of course, pretending that the depression rolled off him like water off a duck's back. He didn't want anyone to know how crushed he was - just like how he didn't want anyone to know how devestated he was at this moment, caught in a violent downward spiral.
"I feel lost," he said after a long pause. "I feel like ... it's not worth it anymore. I feel like I want to quit. I think I do want to quit. I can't fucking handle it anymore, Ames." He balled his hands up into fists behind his head and sighed once more, then looked back up at the caravan cieling. "The snitches and the talkers; the gossip blogs; the prying eyes. Did you think it was going to be like this? I mean, I knew what this tour would mean. We'd be poked and prodded at, to make sure we were fit for a spotlight. But seriously - is it worth it anymore?"

"Oh Milo," She said sympathetically, shifting to wrap her arms around him in a hug. He just sounded so... miserable and devastated. Amy believed every word he said. With her record of boyfriends Amy was also the victim of the gossip and what not. She just chose not to read it. It wasn't true and so it wasn't worth getting herself worked up about it. "No, I guess I didnt expect all of this but... its still worth it. Every day I meet new kids who are just amazed to meet me and that definitely makes up for the crappy parts... in my opinion anyways." She shrugged a little, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Maybe you just need a break," Amethyst suggested suddenly "Like... some kind of private get away to the middle of nowhere to just get away from it all for a little while you know?" That sounded like a good idea to her. It especially sounded like Milo needed one more than anybody though. "That or maybe its just a funk you're going through... I've been going through something too, its craziness." Yeah, but her funk was something else. Not related to her career or the media. Mostly related to her self confidence but that was beside the point. They were talking about milo now, not Amy.

Milo welcomed the comfort of Amy wrapping her arms around him, settling her head on his shoulder. Milo slipped one arm around her, too. They used to lie like this on the floor of his bedroom when they were in high school, listening to music. For one moment, Milo lost himself in her arms, listening to her voice, feeling her heartbeat against his.
"I do need a break," he said softly. His voice was hoarse all of a sudden. "I need a break from everything." He paused and gave a long, drawn-out sigh. He rested his cheek against Amy's head, smelling her hair. She had a different scent than Katherine. While Katherine's smell was green and floral, Amy had a cleaner scent - like the woods after the rain, sweet and fresh. He closed his eyes and spoke slowly. "Amy? I think ... I think I need to quit the band."

Amy was thinking the same thing as they were quiet for a little bit. She was remembering the good old days when they were together, young and in love. Amy knew she'd never completely gotten over him. She was starting to wonder if this was such a good idea after all. Because it was just making it harder for Amy to accept the fact he'd already found somebody else. She still had nobody but she pushed all these thoughts away, wanting to just... relax and try and help Milo out.
Amethyst was quite startled when he said he wanted to quit the band. She lifted her head off his shoulder to look at him, concerned. She bit her lip for a second before speaking "Are you sure?" she asked uncertainly "Miles, we need you, you're the best guitarist here, what are we gonna do without you?" Sure, Amy wanted to get over him but she didn't want him to disapear from her life completely. She still really cherished his friendship and being around him.

"I know, Ames," Milo replied sadly. He yanked his hood down over his eyes once more. "But ... I think enough's enough for me. I thought I was going to like this ... being-in-the-spotlight thing. But it's getting to be more of a curse than a blessing. The exposure isn't worth it. I feel like I'm being bullied. I can't ... I can't even be with the person I love because of this fucking tour."
He didn't want to elaborate. He hoped Amy wouldn't ask him to. No one knew who Milo was with, not even his own band. They knew there was someone - but the specifics were kept mum. No one knew how much his heart was breaking at this moment either.
"As for finding another guitarist ... Ames, there's a million people out there who would die for the chance to join a band, especially one like this that's on its way to the top," Milo said, his voice shaky. Was he serious? "I'm sure after auditioning for one say, you'd find someone just as good - if not better - than me."

Amy's face fell as she thought. If the tour was keeping him from somebody he loved, then... No, hold on a second. Amy knew it was pretty messed up but she couldn't help but feel jealous. Milo wanted to quit the band, partly to do with someone he loved. She looked away, trying to figure it out but it wasnt really any use at all. She sighed and shook her head "It won't be the same," She said quietly, when he suggested they find someone else. "Are you sure you don't want to sleep on it and think it over before you make a huge decision like this?" she pleaded, sitting up and sighing. She really didn't want to see Milo go. She'd miss him terribly and the band wouldn't be the same without him. He was a Scheduled Nurse. They couldn't just find someone else off the street or something. He was part of the band, part of the story behind the band. Getting a new lead guitarist would be like... it would be like her showing up at a stranger's wedding or somethnig. It would be totally weird and awkward. She didnt want it to happen. At all.

She was upset by this. He knew. He had dated Amy for a long time - he could sense her moods like animals could sense oncoming bad weather. Taking a page from their book, he remained low to the ground. When she sat up, he remained lying on his back.
"It'll be weird for awhile," Milo said, "but if I left ... whoever takes my place would be just as good." He bit his lower lip. "I just don't think I can handle this kind of stress anymore. I'm not cut out for this kind of fame. Ever since I was thirteen, all I've ever wanted to do was play music. I didn't care if it brought me fame. Now that it has ... I'd give anything to just go back to New York and do acoustic sets in shitty bars like I did in high school." He shook his head. "This isn't for me, Ames."

She frowned sadly, looking over at him with a small sigh. Amy could respect that he was leaving for the girl he loved, she could respect that he was giving this up because he could no longer take it before it turned him into someone else, she could respect his decision because she was sure it was tough for him to decide. But her selfishness refused to let her give up without a fight. After all, he'd played such an important role in several aspects of her life, he couldn't just disappear. The girl blinked hard as she looked down at her hands for a moment. Maybe he was right, the guitarist wasn't a problem. But it wouldn't be the same. No more looking over to be greeted with that Milo grin, no more flirting on stage to get the crowd riled up, no more staying up late together watching stupid tv shows, no more wrestling when no one was around, no more coming up with silly things to write when they signed autographs, no more Milo, period. "They don't care." She said finally "The press and whatever, you're famous now, they aren't gonna give up that easily" She mumbled, glancing up at him once more.
"And I'm gonna miss you... I mean, we all are, but..." But me especially. she added to herself in her head as she struggled with the lump in her throat. Telephone calls and emails wouldnt be the same. She wouldnt get to see Milo's face or hear his voice or smell his wonderful scent. At least not for a while. And they might just keep touring, maybe they wouldnt stop for a break, even if they did they might have to do some recording and they might not get to have time to hang out with Milo anyways. The whole idea was just overwhelmingly miserable and scary. Milo just meant so much to her.

Milo gave a small, reluctant smile as Amy ranted. He felt like he was going to cry, but he didn't want to. He had cried in front of Dante - he sure as fuck wasn't going to cry in front of Amy. Not only was Amy his ex, she was one of his best friends. She worried over him, always making sure he was okay. She took care of him. He sometimes treated her like shit – well, he tended to treat everyone like shit every so often, least of all Amy, and whenever he did, he felt awful. He felt awful right now. She looked genuinely devastated at this news.
He had hurt her by saying this, he knew. He could only imagine what was running through her mind, behind those big brown eyes. He loved her eyes, he always sang Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” to her on his guitar. He was tired of hurting people, tired of being hurt. He hated all of it. He didn’t want to be the one breaking hearts.
“Ames,” he said softly, reaching up and putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. “I’m not leaving tomorrow, you know? It’s just something I’ve been thinking about. This is no good for me, you know? Come here.” He pulled her back down so that he could hug her, and they were cuddled together on her cot. It was comfortable to have her in his arms again. “Chill out, okay, kiddo? Don’t worry about it. I promise, if I ever decide to leave the band for real, you’ll be the first to know.”
jeez, sorry it took me so long ><

Amy sighed and rested her head against his chest, closing her eyes for a moment as she wrapped her arms around him, just staying close to him, listening to his breathing, his heart beat, smelling him -as weird as that sounded. She had, of course, been imagining Milo being gone in the morning or something. He said he was quitting and all she could register was the fact that he wouldn't be there anymore. But he wouldn't leave right away... she felt kind of stupid for ranting at him now. "Yeah I know... sorry..." She said quietly.
They were quiet for a while. "I guess I know what you mean though..." Amy admitted finally. "I miss the good old days." the girl sighed. When they were just having fun in Alex's garage. Usually after practices Amy would hang out with Milo all day... it had been a nice break from life in general. They would just go off into their own little world, it didnt matter where they were. She thought about it every single day, lately. It didnt used to bother her as much but she had mentioned she was in some kind of funk. She was just feeling hopeless, like she'd never find the one right for her. Or she had and she had given him up. That would totally suck.

Milo rested his chin on top of Amy’s head. He missed holding her like this. When he was with Katherine, how couldn’t imagine being so intimate with another girl; but now that Katherine was out of the picture, he felt free—he had felt free.
But wait – this wasn’t just another girl. This was Amy for godssake. He and Amy have had so many good times together. So many good times. Like in Alex’s garage. In her bedroom. In his grandmother’s living room. They were their own team.
“I miss the good old days too,” he said softly. They lay in silence for several minutes, listening to one another breathing. It was comforting. He stroked her hair, the silkiness sifting through his fingers. He was reminded of his one night with Katherine in that hotel room…God, he missed the good old days.
Without thinking, Milo turned over, so that Amy was now on her back, and kissed her. It wasn’t a kiss between a brother and a sister, or a cordial kiss between exes. It was more like a passionate, heated kiss between new lovers.

Shocked didn't even begin to cover it. Oh no, it was more than that. On top of that she was extremely torn in about fifty different directions and she felt like she was about to be pulled apart. He couldn't do this. For about a million and one different reasons. First and foremost being the fact that he had somebody else. Everybody knew that by now. Secondly, how was she ever going to get over him at this rate. But the selfish part of Amy that wanted to keep Milo all to herself was secretly happy that he was kissing her this way. She missed these kinds of kisses so much... nobody kissed like Milo Martin. Amy would know. And as much as she would regret it later, she kissed him back. Amethyst allowed herself the luxury of letting her mind go completely blank. She just stopped thinking for a few moments. Might as well enjoy it...
So she kissed him back, despite her conscience telling her this was bad news. Amy rested her hand gently against his cheek as her eyes closed. It was nicer to not think this to death while it was happening. She had been dying to kiss Milo for so long, dying to be with him again. It was nice to just not care about the rest of the world again, even if it was a short amount of time.
