Finally, the origin has been discovered!
As you know, my loyal readers, I have decided to make all the happenings of the Euphoria Music Festival my number one priority. I've been following very closely and have acquired numerous sources that have been most helpful to me. If you're reading this, you know who you are...
For my first piece, I give you, finally, the origin of the Scheduled Nurse and Sighted South feud!
You wanted it and now Roxanne has your story!
It is a well known fact that Euphoria Music Festival’s two most celebrated participants—Scheduled Nurse and Sighted South—have had an ongoing rivalry for the past year. However, why is it that these seemingly unrelated bands seem to harbor a hatred for one another?
It all started in New York City’s East Village. Sighted South was on a national tour, vagrancy style. No wonder why they agreed to do Euphoria—it must feel like going back to their roots. At this time, Sighted South was steadily gaining a fan base across the continental United States, while at the same time; Scheduled Nurse was growing in popularity via MySpace. The two were to meet for the first time on Scheduled Nurses’ home turf, sharing the stage at a Bleecker Street bar known as Mesh. To this day, Scheduled Nurse credits Mesh for giving them their head start.
When Sighted South arrived at Mesh, they discovered that they had been billed beneath Scheduled Nurse.
“Scheduled Nurse had been playing here for years, since they were kids,” says Mesh’s manager Wray Morales. “Nobody around here had really heard of Sighted South. I figured it was okay to put Scheduled Nurse on the top of the bill.”
Sighted South front man Gabe Gray was apparently vocal about his displeasure at seeing Scheduled Nurse being billed above their band, a source from Mesh says.
“Gabe came in here and demanded to know why Sighted South wasn’t billed above Scheduled Nurse,” the source recalls. “We tried to explain to them that Scheduled Nurse were regulars here, and then Gabe said, ‘Who give a shit?’”
Well, apparently, everyone except the members of Sighted South gave a shit, due to the fact that the people coming out to see Scheduled Nurse was more than twice the amount that showed for Sighted South’s set.
During Scheduled Nurses’ set, Gray was overheard making snide remarks and rude comments towards the band, calling them “untalented” and “unmotivated”. Apparently, these words reached the ears of Scheduled Nurse members Alex Weathers and Milo Martin, who were livid.
“Honestly, we didn’t really have a problem with Sighted South,” Weathers admits. “But when you start to talk shit about another band for no reason, things are going to happen.”
“Gabe’s a pompous whore,” adds Martin with venom. “It’s disgusting the way all he thinks about is fame.”
The night did not end well. When Weathers and Martin went to confront Gray, things apparently got violent and came to blows, joined by Sighted South member Aidan Cooper. Authorities were not called, but Sighted South was banned from playing Mesh again. Ever since, Sighted South and Scheduled Nurse have become bitter rivals.
When asked to comment on the opposition, Gray said, “Scheduled Nurse is jealous of how quickly we’re gaining fame. We’ve actually worked hard to get the respect we have. What did they do? Set up a MySpace page? Anyone with a computer can do that.”
Harsh words from rock’s rising stars don’t seem to stop the crowds from flooding their shows, and the patrons of Euphoria will not be disappointed in what they see. Martin has said he does not plan on becoming “involved” with Sighted South in any way, shape or form. Weathers has said otherwise.
“I’m willing to make amends if they are,” he admitted, “but they’re stubborn, and, frankly, so are we.”
Will being on the road together maybe mend the rift between these two differently but equally talented and stunning bands? Or is it heading for another band brawl that will end the tour in tears?
Stay tuned for more of the latest gossip from the road!
