"Honor those the dragons heed
In thought and favor, word and deed
Worlds are lost or worlds are saved
From those dangers dragon-braved."
Telgar Weyr: Dawning of a New Era
Pern, currently in the 4th Interval (Turn 1054), has faced many problems and changes over the past Turn. First the eldest Weyrwoman on Pern went into retirement leaving Telgar Weyr with some difficult leadership changes. The transition has been rocky thus far. Then Pern was hit with a series of bizarre natural disasters, nothing with a high death toll, some crops suffered from a fire on the Keroonian plains. Just when the people of Pern thought that things were going up, a disease spread through the populace. Though the illness was swift it was deadly to those younger than three and some of the more frail elderly. Through the worst of it all, the dragon riders have remained dedicated to the protection of Pern. They rest their hope on the future, taking comfort from the fact that Adeloth's last clutch was counted at 34 successful pairings and one of them Gold. Telgar Weyr is thus far the only Weyr recording high clutch numbers, with their only mature Queen. After her flight about a month ago, Adeloth has clutched another impressive clutch by Bronze Bristith.
The Holders are widespread in their opinions on the Dragons. Are they here to protect us from the horrible Thread that has not appeared in nearly four hundred turns or have they outgrown their use? A Conclave at the end of the Turn was uneventful, nothing was settled as the Holders were simply too diverse in their opinions. Many Holders are now reporting the disappearance of heirs and some of them their wives. They are in the process of blaming the dragonriders for their missing loved ones.
While the crafters of Pern are not lost on what is happening they are divided as much as the holds and especially within their own areas of expertise. If there is one craft that would turn on Telgar it would be the Beastcraft. For, as unfortunate as it may seem, the old Weyrwoman had made an enemy at a young age, of the now Master Beastcrafter of Pern. The Healer Hall is about to open as an active area all its own. With all these strange illnesses striking Pern, now would be a great time to be a Healer (or a dangerous one…).
Currently, an illness has emerged that has the makings of an epidemic. Of the people who catch this illness only 50% survive. The highest numbers of cases are occurring in Holds and it seems to be affecting people between the ages of fourteen and twenty most severely. Telgar Weyr has had the most losses of all the Weyrs. Even their most beloved retired Weyrwoman is ill and all too likely will be lost to this epidemic.
Why should you join? Telgar Weyr is a fun place with active and very friendly members. We like all sorts of characters and have several available for creation. You do not have to know about Pern to join, all the info you need is on the site and there are plenty of people who know how to help. It is semi-literate to literate meaning we expect at least two paragraphs per post though the occasional one paragraph is acceptable. Telgar Weyr is planning to expand into other areas of Dragon rider roleplay including flying thread. As an expansion of the site, Igen Weyr opened in January. We are in need of many Rankers there. Each Weyr holds anywhere from 300-600 dragons and can support up to five mature Queens. This site is canon. (Meaning there are only the original dragon colors available for creation and the site follows Anne’s guidelines as much as possible)
Telgar Weyr: Dawning of a New Era… Can you save Pern from herself? Or will you be part of a revolution to force the Weyrs to contribute to society?
